Arnoud De Meyer serves as President of Singapore Management University. His fields of interest include manufacturing and technology strategy, the implementation of new manufacturing technologies, the management of R&D, how innovation can be managed more effectively, project management under conditions of high uncertainty, management and innovation in Asia, the globalization of Asian firms and the management of novel projects.

Biography:

Prof. Chin-Tay Shih is a Professional Consultant at China Investment & Development Company, Limited. He is also an Advisor of Science and Technology at Taiwan¡¯s Executive Yuan. He serves as Senior Advisor of Asia Tech Management LLC. Prof. Shih was the President of Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI). He was honored as a Fellow of the IEEE in 1992. He also received the Engineer Medal of the Chinese Institute of Engineering in 1995 and the First Medal of the Ministry of Economics Affair in 2003. He is a distinguished visiting scholar at Stanford.


Plenary Speaker: Arciszewski Tomasz

Prof. Emeritus of George Mason University

Biography:

Dr. Arciszewski’s formal academic background was in the area of structural engineering and mechanics with hands-on design experience in steel space structures and in general structural engineering in Poland and Switzerland.  Over his academic career he became increasingly interested in inventive engineering, knowledge acquisition, visual thinking in inventive design, and education. He was also very involved in initiatives launched by the American Society of Civil Engineering in computing, and in 2004 he he received the ASCE Computing Award and in 2006 the Intelligent Computing in Engineering Award from the European Group for Intelligent Computing in Engineering.

Biography:

Bob Hodgson is the managing director of Zernike (UK). He has over twenty years of international business experience. Bob remains on the board of SQW as a non-executive director. He is a non-executive director of Emerging Market Economics, a specialist economics consultancy offering services to the private sector and international financial institutions interested in emerging markets. Prior to his time with SQW, he spent 8 years with the consultancy side of Coopers & Lybrand, working internationally from a London base.


Plenary Speaker: Bill Nuttall

Prof. in Energy of The Open University

Biography:

Bill Nuttall is Professor of Energy, he joined the Open University in October 2012, having spent ten years at the University of Cambridge most recently as Senior Lecturer in Technology Policy. Much of his work has focused on technology and policy issues of civil nuclear power. He has had a leading role in studies devoted to particular energy-related materials including plutonium, helium, uranium, thorium and hydrogen. Much of that work is on-going. He has written on matters of industrial policy and, reflecting his physics background, he maintains an active interest in applied complexity science, including spatial agent-based simulation, particularly of energy-related problems.

Professor Barczak’s primary research interests are in the area of new product development (NPD) with particular emphasis on the NPD process and the use of information technology, including social media, during the process. Professor Barczak is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Product Innovation Management. She is also on the editorial board of Creativity and Innovation Management and IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management. She has also worked in higher education and multinational firms as associate professor and senior analyst respectively before joining the media industry.

Prof. Doeg-Seong Oh is currently a professor of College of Engineering at Chungnam National University, Daejeon, Republic of Korea and Secretary General of World Technopolis Association (WTA). He has involved in WTA as a Chairman of the Academic Committee since 1997 and has been acting the role of General Secretary Since 2004. In 2009, as a world leader of the scientific organization, he was registered at the Marquis Who's Who LLC, “2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of 21st Century" by the IBC (International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England) and 'Great Minds of the 21st Century' by American Biographical Institute (ABI).

Biography:

Prof. Fred Phillips is author of Market-Oriented Technology Management: Innovating for Profit in Entrepreneurial Times (Springer, 2001), and Editor-in-Chief of the international journal Technological Forecasting & Social Change. He lived in Austin for twenty-six years and in Portland for nine years, playing leading roles in the development of both techno poleis. He has consulted worldwide on the techno polis formation process and on new business incubation, most recently for the US Environmental Protection Agency for the launch of a water technology cluster in the southern Ohio – northern Kentucky – southeast Indiana region. He is a Senior Fellow of the IC2 Institute at University of Texas at Austin, a think-tank which originated the academic study of the techno polis phenomenon.
